  • You need to be logged on to a Windows account with 'administrator' rights to install the software.
  • Click on the green button below. On the download dialog,  select  Run (or  'Save'  then  'Run') after the install file has downloaded.
  • The install process will start automatically. W7 and Vista will show a UAC pop-up asking if you trust the software. You will note that in this pop-up box we are confirmed as the publisher, as our software is digitally signed. Say 'Yes'.
  • Keep clicking 'next' to accept the defaults you are offered. 
  • Check the PC's date is set correctly - if you change it during the free trial, the free trial will end, and you won't get another.
  • If you don't reboot, you need to start "PIC-PC Rule Settings" from the start menu or desktop. 
  • You will be guided through the initial set-up to get you started. You can go back and change any of your choices later.
  • During the initial set-up we give you the option of installing an IE add-on that often triggers anti-spyware software. This isn't vital , and if you are concerned you can skip that step to avoid the warnings. If you go ahead, don't panic if you get a non-specific spyware alert from your anti-virus /anti-spyware software. This is because our software uses similar techniques to those used by some spyware. Our software is all digitally signed, which means that anyone can legally prove we wrote it, and easily find our address from public records. Criminal spyware authors don't sign their work! If you have any worries, feel free to contact us. Never, ever install unsigned software!
  • For multiple PCs on a home network, install PIC-PC on each one. Note that there is a big discount for extra licences, so this won't work out to be very expensive.
  • If you are going to use our roaming feature without a NAS device, it's best to start with the 'master' PC (the one that will hold the time data and rules).  We suggest you try it without any 'roaming' option at first - you can switch to 'roaming' mode later.

    This is  suitable for  Windows 7*, Vista or  XP.  

    *NB: This works fine under W7 32 bit and 64 bit, but 64 bit applications (there aren't many yet!) are invisible to it. We will soon bring out a 64bit version, in the meantime we suggest - if you have W7-64 bit - you remove the IE-64bit icon from your child's start menu, so they have to use the 32 bit version.



    Please note - when you first run the software as a 'controlled user', you may get warning pop-ups from your anti-spyware software about keystrokes being recorded. This is part of the function of PIC-PC, so say to ignore.  The code is digitally signed, so you know it is from us, and why it needs to do that - it installs keylogging  hooks for controlled users (ie kids) even if you choose not to use that feature, so you can turn on the feature while the child is logged on if you so decide.
